INTRODUCTION

The past few centuries have witnessed the ups & downs of the historic Hoian. The city has a legacy of cultural influence from various historical periods . During the period of 16th to 18th century, it flourished as an international trade port . Going further back in time , during the Champa period, it was a base for ocean silk route , & before the Champa period it was a thriving point for late Sa Huynh culture .  The 16th & 17th centuries marks the highest point of development of Hoian. At this period, Hoian was an international commercial port of Central Vietnam. Traders from Japan, China, India, Holland .... came to Hoian for their business in great number and a bustle for annually commercial fairs, each lasted from 4 to 6 months. Right in this town, the Japanese, Chinese traders set up their emporiums or established their own quarters for permanent habitation.

ITINERARY

Guide & driver pick up at your hotel ( or golf courses ) and transfer to Hoian. On arrival we take a walk in the Ancient Quarter, discover the historic town which used to be a prosperous seaport city during the 17th to 18th centuries. Our visit includes :
  • Japanese Covered Bridge – the oldest construction in Hoian built at the end of 16th century
  • Phung Hung Ancient House – built over 2 hundred years ago and home to 8 generations of the same family
  • Phuc Kien Assembly Hall - built around 1697 and has been functioned as a traditional assembly hall for the Chinese ethnic group from Fujian who live in Hoian
  • Hoian Local Market
  • Traditional Handicraft Workshop where you can see the Hoianese raise silkworms and produce silk for Hoi An's burgeoning textile industry.

Free time to explore more about the old city / shop / take pictures before transfer back to your hotel.
